Common questions

What should a trucking invoice include?

Your carrier name and contact details, who is being billed, the shipper, origin and destination, the commodity, the load number and bill of lading number, pickup and delivery dates, the line haul charge, each accessorial such as fuel surcharge or detention on its own line, the total, and your payment terms.

Can I bill by the mile, the load, the ton, or the hour?

Yes, and you can mix them on one document. Each line has its own quantity, unit and rate, so a per-mile line haul, an hourly detention charge and a flat fuel surcharge can sit on the same invoice. Rates with fractions of a cent, such as $0.285 a bushel, are kept exactly and each line is rounded to the cent.

Can I put several loads on one invoice?

Yes. Add a line for each load and put its load or ticket number in the description. The load details section describes one shipment, so for a multi-load invoice leave it blank or use it for what the loads have in common.

Is this a freight invoice template I can reuse?

Yes. Your carrier details are remembered on your device, and Duplicate copies an invoice for the next load so you only change the dates, references and quantities.
